Cultural exchange projects in Brazil

Early collaborations

Helena Freddi Brazilian artist, moved to Italy in 1995, where she spent more than two years. During her stay, she attends the Corso San Gottardo atelier, where she spends several periods of residency. Here, she has the opportunity to come into contact with other artists and to meet Daniela Lorenzi.

Together, they decide to initiate a cultural exchange between the two countries, organizing in 1997 Quali differenze II, the first travelling exhibition project, a collective between Italian artists or artists active in Italy and Brazilian artists, that took place at the Castello di Sartirana in Pavia and subsequently opened at the Galeria Eugerie Villien in the Faculdade Santa Marcelina in São Paulo and at the Museo de la Grafica in Curitiba, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

The Brazilian Consulate in Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in San Paolo and the newly founded IBRIT Institute in Milan, have from the beginning, officially accompanied and fostered this new bridge of collaboration.

In the following years, the exchange intesified with the activation of several artist residencies and the production of a limited edition folder/edition Meridiani Meridianos, made with the presence of all the artists in the Milan atelier.
