10. Survey of contemporary Italian art in São Paulo. Ana Maria de Abreu Laurenza
"[...] Since 1997, Italian engravers have maintained an active cultural exchange with Brazilian engravers: the Grafica 10 group, coordinated by Helena Freddi, who was born in Brazil in 1958 but is an Italian citizen, maintains contacts with the Italian engravers of Atelier 14 in Milan, also represented by Daniela Lorenzi. Places for research on new techniques, including the use of new matrices and materials, experiments with metal and woodcut, Grafica 10 and Atelier 14 have promoted exhibitions and workshops in both countries. With the official support of the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo,” but paying all the expenses of the exhibitions, in 1997 they produced ‘What is the Difference,’ an exhibition and workshop by Daniela Lorenzi in the Faculdade Santa Marcellina in São Paulo; in 1999 ‘São Paulo-Milan’ at the Centro Cultural São Paulo in which Francesca Gagliardi, Daniela Lorenzi and Cristian Boffelli participated; in 2001 “Jog-Recriaçao Artistica de Jogos no Museo nacional de Belas Artes do Rio de Janeiro,” in which Italians Daniela Lorenzi and Francesca Gagliardi participated; in 2002 “Atelier 14 and Brazilian Engraving,” in the São Paulo gallery; and “Atelier 14, Group 10 and InterStudioGraphic in Rio de Janeiro,” in the Santos Art Gallery. In 2004, the two groups organized an exhibition and workshop of large prints, with a minimum size of 200 x 100 cm, without any support from the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo.”
